"Pain and glow" is a masterpiece (Gazeta Wyborcza), the best and also the most personal film of the Spanish master for years (The Hollywood Reporter), the most beautiful celebration of love (The Playlist). Excellent reviews, tears of emotion and a 10-minute ovation after the screening - these are just a few reactions to the latest film by one of the greatest directors of world cinema, Pedro Almodóvar. The creator of "All about my mother" and "Talk to her" talks about the role of chance in our lives, the strength of the first fascinations and what remains after years of relationships - especially love relationships - with people who are important to us. "Pain and Glow" is also a reunion of the Spanish director with his long-term film muse, Penélope Cruz, and - above all - with Antonio Banderas, who was honored with the award for the best actor at the 72nd Cannes Festival.
The main character of the film is Salvador Mallo (Banderas), a cult Spanish director who shuns the media and strongly protects his privacy. After years, the man finds the people who have had the greatest impact on his life, and relives the most important moments from his past. He returns to childhood when he and his parents, in search of prosperity, moved to a small town. Recalls images of his first passion, the first great love and pain of parting. He recalls meeting with the cinema, which for years became the meaning of his life. Returning to the most intense experiences of the past years, Salvador finds the strength to face the present. Will he manage to close the unfinished things of the past that destroy his orderly everyday life?
"Pain and Glow" is the most personal of all Almodóvar's films, and at the same time, as emphasized by world critics, the best film in his career. The emotional work tailored to Fellini's "Eight and a Half", in which the Spanish director once again impresses with his unique visual sensitivity and combines great sensitivity with a sense of humor in a capital way.
